ACCA Launches New Qtech Program: Duct Design Basics

April 14, 2016

ACCA, the Indoor Environment & Energy Efficiency Association, has launched its newest online certificate program, Qtech: Duct Design Basics.

Through Qtech, contractors can offer their employees on-demand training in quality HVACR installation, maintenance, home performance, and other areas. Technicians that successfully complete Qtech programs will be awarded certificate designations allowing them to differentiate themselves in the field. In addition, the courses are approved for CEU hours from a wide variety of organizations.

"ACCA knows that the best contractors invest in training for their teams, so we are pleased to release this newest Qtech program, Duct Design Basics, as an training option that is easily accessible and affordable," said Paul T. Stalknecht, ACCA president and CEO. "The new program, which focuses on ACCA’s Manual D, will help contractors and their technicians provide customers with better comfort and lower energy bills through properly designed systems. In turn, contractors will reap the benefits of higher profit margins through fewer callbacks and more satisfied customers who refer the company to family and friends."

The Basic Duct Design Qtech program consists of three hours of video training on how to properly use a Friction Chart and/or ACCA’s duct slide rule values for sizing ducts in the field. The course concludes with basic instructions for filling out a Manual D Speedsheet. A downloadable copy of Understanding the Friction Chart and a filled in Manual D Speedsheet sample problem are included in the course package. ACCA also recommends purchasing a Duct Slide Rule to get the most value from the training.

Upon passing this program's final exam, students will receive a certificate and are eligible for CEUs from the following organizations: BPI; HVAC Excellence; NATE; RESNET; and RSES.

Contractors and their technicians can sign up for the new Basic Duct Design program at www.acca.org/qtech. The course costs $139 ($99 for members). To receive the CEUs, students must contact the individual organizations and provide them with a copy of their certificate.
