ACCA and NASEO Send Letter Promoting the Value of Quality Installations to State Energy Officials

June 7, 2016

On June 6, 2016, ACCA President and CEO, Paul T. Stalknecht sent a letter to the state energy offices through the National Association of State Energy Officials (NASEO) explaining the value of following ACCA's Quality Installation (QI) Standard when installing new heating and cooling equipment in residential buildings. The letter also outlined the available resources and training that ACCA offers both online and in-person.

In his letter, Stalknecht referenced the 2014 National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) report that found that improper installations can reduce HVAC equipment's efficiency by more than 40 percent. He also stressed that ACCA's goal is to promote low-cost, energy efficient solutions, and to encourage energy leaders to develop programs to improve HVAC contractors’ quality installations, duct work design, and home performance techniques, so that homeowners reap the benefits.

"ACCA realizes that state energy offices are the perfect partners for us to get the message out about energy savings through quality installations," said Paul T. Stalknecht, ACCA president and CEO. "We have a common goal of helping homeowners by creating more comfortable homes that use less energy and saves them money. Together we can have a profound impact on how energy is used in home across the country."

“NASEO is proud to begin work with our industry partners to address the importance of quality installation of HVAC equipment in our nation’s homes,” said David Terry, NASEO’s executive director. “NASEO, along with many state energy offices, and with support from the U.S. Department of Energy, has identified duct leakage as a major source of energy savings potential through a series of residential energy code field studies. We are excited to start putting money back into the pockets of homeowners.”

To help its partners achieve their goals, ACCA has developed a user-friendly, online platform called Qtech to teach contractors energy saving techniques. By providing technicians with the Qtech training programs, the energy industry is able to help homeowners obtain energy efficiency rebates. Additionally, the technicians who participate in the programs develop valuable skills that lead to career long opportunities.
